A message from the principal...

Huggins Community,

Can you believe it?! It’s almost GAME TIME! The first day of the 2026–2027 school year is just a few days away, and Team Huggins is ready to kick off another amazing season!

A huge THANK YOU to all of our Huggins families who joined us for Meet the Teacher! It was SO good to have our Hounds back on campus. The hugs, smiles, excitement, and energy throughout the building filled our buckets. We also loved welcoming our newest Hounds to the team!

Remember, our weekly Paw Print newsletter is your playbook for all things Huggins! Please take time to read it each week so you’re always up to date on important information, upcoming events, and campus happenings.

Our first day is Tuesday, August 11th! Doors open at 7:15 AM, and parents are welcome to walk their students into the building on the first day. Beginning Wednesday, we will transition to our regular morning arrival procedures. Please review the arrival and dismissal information below to help us keep everyone safe and moving in the right direction.

As with the beginning of every season, it may take us a few days to get into our rhythm! Arrival traffic may be heavier than usual, and dismissal will likely take a little longer as we learn routines and make sure every Hound gets home safely. We appreciate your patience and teamwork—we promise, it gets faster!

Let your Hounds know that their teachers and staff are READY and cannot wait to see them Tuesday morning! We have big goals, big plans, and an incredible year ahead.

Huggins Elementary Car Rider Procedures

The safety of your children is our top priority, and adhering to our established car rider procedures helps us maintain a smooth and organized process during drop-off and pick-up times. Here are a few key points to remember:

Turn Right into the Huggins Car Rider Driveway: The entrance to our car rider line is off of Katy-Fulshear Road. To get in line, you must be heading south on Katy-Fulshear. Cars are not permitted to make a left-hand turn into the driveway.
Stay in Line: When entering the Huggins driveway for drop-off or pick-up, please stay in a single file line. This helps avoid any congestion and ensures a steady flow of traffic. Do not pull off and attempt to pass cars in line, as this creates a safety hazard.
Follow Staff Instructions: Our staff members are trained to guide and assist during drop-off and pick-up times. Please follow their instructions promptly and patiently. Their guidance is aimed in creating a safe environment for everyone.
No Cell Phones: While in the car rider line, please refrain from using your cell phone. This allows you to remain focused on the line and surrounding area, helping to ensure a safe environment for our students and staff.
Arrival and Dismissal Times: It's important to arrive at the designated times for drop-off and pick-up. Remember, our doors open at 7:15am. Staff will begin opening doors at that time. Please do not drop off your student before 7:15am. Students that arrive after 7:45 will be counted tardy. If you arrive to school after the start time and there is no longer line or staff outside, you will need to park and walk your child into the building to check-in and receive a tardy slip. Please note that all change of transportation changes must be made before 1:30pm. In the event you need to pick up your child early, please do so by 2:00pm.
Car Rider Tags: You must have a 26-27 car rider tag hanging from your rearview mirror to pick up your student in the car rider line. To help our afternoon dismissal run as smoothly and safely as possible, please leave your car rider tag hanging from your rearview mirror for the entire time you are in the car rider line. In the event that you do not have your tag, you will need to park in the lot and go to the office. Your child will be released to you with proper ID and after the car rider line is cleared.

By adhering to these procedures, we can collectively create a safe and efficient car rider process. We greatly appreciate your cooperation, understanding, and patience...especially the first few weeks of school!

Car Rider Map and Procedures

First Day of School- TUESDAY, August 11th

Walking your child to class on the first day of school can be a great way to ease any first-day jitters and help them feel more comfortable as they begin the new year. On the first day, our doors will open at 7:15 a.m., and families are welcome to walk their child to class.

Day 1-

On the first day of school. students will go straight to their classrooms unless they are eating breakfast.

Day 2 and Beyond-

Beginning the second day of school, students will sit in the gym with their grade level or have breakfast until they are released to their classrooms at 7:30. Students arriving between 7:30-7:45 will go straight to their classes unless they are eating breakfast.

Lunch Visitors

We’re excited for you to join your Hound for lunch — just not quite yet! During the first week of school, we won’t be allowing any lunch visitors. This time is dedicated to helping students learn the routines, practice procedures, and get comfortable with lunchtime expectations.

Lunch visitors are welcome beginning the second week of school.

Bus Rider Information

All students will be given an ID tag on the first day of school. Tags will be distributed to students along with a tag sleeve and lanyard. It is very important that students wear their student ID tags daily.

Students are required to ride the bus designated by transportation and get off at the designated stop. Students may not ride the bus to another child’s house. Riding a bus is a privilege, and students must follow the expectations for behavior as outlined in the LCISD Elementary Handbook.

All pre-kindergarten and kindergarten bus riders in LamarCISD must be met at their bus stop by a parent, guardian or designated adult.

The responsible person must show identification and have a blue card to pick up a pre-kindergarten or kindergarten student from a bus stop. The blue card procedure for pre-k and kindergarten bus riders ensures that only parent-authorized individuals (emergency contact listed in Skyward) receive their student at the bus stop location.

If a pre-kindergarten or kindergarten student has an older sibling and the parent wants the pre-k and/or kindergarten student to be released to that sibling, the parent must write the name of the older student on the back of the card and sign the card agreeing the bus driver can release the younger sibling to the older sibling at the bus stop. The older sibling MUST have the signed blue card with them every day or the pre-k and/or kindergarten student will not be released to go with the sibling, and the pre-k and/or kindergarten student will return to campus for the parents to pick them up.

If no authorized individual or older sibling is present at the bus stop, the pre-kindergarten or kindergarten bus rider will be returned to the home campus.

Lamar CISD utilizes Versatrans My Stop. You can access your student’s bus route through the My Stop e-link to view: Route number, Bus stops, and Estimated arrival/drop-off times.

All you need is your student(s) ID number and date of birth to login.

You can also download the Versatrans My Stop App to view your student(s) active bus route’s arrival time to the designated bus stop. Guardians can register one student. If they have more students within the district, they will be added to the same account. To login, you need your student(s) ID number and date of birth.

Changes in Transportation

Transportation changes must be received by 2:00 p.m. Any change in transportation arrangements require a note to the teacher or phone call to the office. Make sure you write your child's first and last name, teacher's name, and indicate the date(s) for the change and how the child is going home. We ask that you not email the change since there may be times that a teacher is not in attendance or does not have a chance to read the email during the school day.

Beginning of the Year Forms

For the 2026-27 school year, all required Lamar Consolidated ISD beginning-of-year forms must be completed online through the Skyward Family Access Center.

Online forms are available through the Family Access Center starting July 27th and all forms need to be submitted no later than Sept. 11th.
