Howdy, Hounds!

Welcome to the very first edition of the Huggins Paw Print for the 2026–2027 school year! This weekly newsletter is your go-to source for all the latest happenings, reminders, and important updates from Huggins Elementary.

For those who are new to Huggins, welcome! My name is Jennifer Brewer, and I am honored to serve as the proud principal of Huggins Elementary. This school year marks the beginning of my 24th year in education, all of which have been in Lamar CISD. As a Huggins parent, community member, and educator, I am deeply committed to creating a positive learning environment where every child feels valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. I am excited to partner with our families for another incredible school year.

This year, we're stepping onto the field with our school-wide theme: "Bringing Our A-Game Every Day, in Every Way!" Throughout the year, we'll celebrate teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, leadership, and a commitment to excellence—both in the classroom and beyond. At Huggins, every student, staff member, and family is an important part of our team, and we can't wait to cheer one another on as we make this our best season yet!

The Paw Print will be sent through ParentSquare every Friday at 4:00 p.m., so be sure to check in each week for important updates, celebrations, and upcoming events.

Over the next two weeks, our teachers and paraprofessionals will be participating in professional learning as they prepare for an outstanding school year. From curriculum planning and safety training to classroom preparation, collaboration, and team building, our staff is hard at work getting ready to welcome our Hounds back. We are excited to kick off another incredible year together!

The annual LCISD Block Party is on Saturday, August 1 at Tomas High School, and it's always a great event! Stop by to meet our team, connect with other Huggins families, and help us kick off another winning school year.

Beginning-of-Year forms will be available in Family Access beginning July 27. Please complete these required forms as soon as possible so your child's information is up to date. Class schedules and teacher assignments cannot be released until these forms have been completed.

Be sure to mark your calendars for Meet the Teacher on Wednesday, August 5, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. This is a come-and-go event where students can meet their teacher, drop off school supplies, and visit the gym to shop for spirit wear, learn about Watch D.O.G.S., and explore after-school care options.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Our front doors will open at 7:15 a.m. Families are invited to walk their child to class on the first day of school only. Dismissal begins at 3:10 p.m.
